The Tipex effect
The Israeli band, Tipex, had a little argument with the Eurovision director and threatened to quit.
To tell you the truth, I’m not really a Tipex fan. I don’t like their shallow songs, I don’t like their style and I don’t like Koby Oz, the singer. The Israeli Eurovision committee are the ones who decided they should represent us.
Tipex gave us 5 songs to choose from. Two of them where bad (i can’t even remember thir names), one of them was beautiful and relevant (12 points) and two others where tolerable mostly because they had a message (sallam salami, red button).
To my dissapointment most of the Israeli people like the song “Red button”.
Red button is a song with a very strong political saying and for that reason, I believe, is not suited for a contest like Eurovision. But the Eurovision commitee, who could have rejected the song, chose not to.
Red button, despite the repeated line in the chorus, is a protest song against the nuclear bombs. No specific country is mentioned in the song. It’s a protest against all nuclear bombs wherever they are.
I don’t like Tipex, I don’t like most of their songs, But I do believe that the Finnish are trying to soften Tipex’s message and that’s plain wrong. They had their chance to reject the song, they renounced it, so let it be heard right.
Don’t push the button
