A brother in grieve
I came across an Israeli blog of a brother of one of the soldiers which were killed in the tank in [tag]lebanon[/tag]. He wrote it on the 22nd of july (About a week and a half after it happend). He didn’t write anything since and I couldn’t reach him to get his permission to publish his entire post (After translation of course) so I’m posting only two paragaphs hoping he’ll allow it.
When they came they gave me a message which went something like “At 12:15 an [tag]IDF[/tag] tank was hit in south lebanon. your brother was in that tank. as far as we know, the whole tank crew was severely injured”, and that was it. Immediately I asked which hospital is he in. The answer was that the crew is still inside the tank and there is a battle taking place in order to reach them. My cell phone clock showed 16:15. I looked at the officers eyes and said “You want to tell me my brother is severely injured and he is inside that tank for four hours?! How do you know he is severely injured?! Do you have any communication with the crew?!”. The officer told me he was updated 5 minutes ago.
The ride home was a long one, as you can imagine. Despite the message they’ve read me or maybe because of it, I knew inside of me that it was over an that Yaniv is already dead. When I got home I saw a group of people standing outside the house. “This is the brother” and “Here is eitan” were the whispers I’ve heard. In the house, I had to go to the bathroom (I drank about 4 bottles on the way). While I was in the bathroom I overheard my father saying “He doesn’t know yet that Yaniv was killed”. Yes, now it was official, I am a bereaved brother. The officers caught me as I got out of the bathroom and started reading me the message. I asked them to stop. I said I understand and I don’t want to hear it. I sat on the couch and started crying, along with my sister, my mother, my father and my grandma. My ants and uncles were on the way. The media were stocking us outside. To their disappointment our family decided not to be interviewed.
